multistrada muffler mod

This is a modification to the stock exhaust of a 2004 Ducati Multistrada 1000DS.
Credit must go where credit is due. I would not have attempted this modification if it wasn't for Bert at Multistrada.net. Bert did this mod first and layed out the basics on the forum...and that was all I needed for inspiration. This mod has given me great sound, which in my opinion the stock multistrada lacked. And a bit more power which is always a bonus! What I also like about the mod is that it kept the stock exhaust look. This modification was considerably less expensive then buying an exhaust system. The total cost was around $350 with about $250 going to welding. Mike at The Four Wheeler in Boulder, CO took care of that for me, since I have never welded a thing. I fabricated the rest of the parts along with hacking the stock muffler apart. I chose to use 1 3/4 inch pipe. This gave a nice fit between the screw holes in the the existing cosmetic piece, and allowed me to attach these cosmetic pieces to the original bolt pattern. I don't have pictures of each step...so you will have to use your imagination. If you have any questions you can PM me at Multistrada.net, my screen name is Riceman. You can also contact me through my business website at KenaiProductions.com. Have fun!

Prepare to commit yourself to the project!

Drill two 1 3/4 inch holes in the back of the exhaust. Aaaaaahhhhhhh!

You can see here that the cosmetic pieces are already removed. I talk more about this in step 2.

I used zip ties to help me allign the holes. This actually worked quite well.   large product photo
